At Least Six People Shot in 24-Hour Period in Newark
At least six people were shot, one fatally, in a 24-hour span from Thursday to yesterday afternoon.
At about 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Ahmad Jackson, 20, died after a targeted shooting in the area of Ashland Street and South Orange Avenue in the city’s West Ward, Essex County Prosecutor’s Office officials said. The shooting was within a block of a high school and a charter school.
About two hours later, two teenage girls were shot after a high school basketball tournament game at the Essex County College on West Market Street near the city’s downtown and across from the county courthouse complex. The injuries were not life-threatening, police said.
